My New Step-Dad
“I stayed home from work and followed Sophie around like a lost puppy.
I’ve never had someone consume me the way she does. I’ve forgotten everything that was important to me, and I’ve only got her on my mind.
My priority was always work. Whatever came after that was much farther down the list.But since meeting Sophie, she’s the only thing I see. Work doesn’t exist, and while it’s driving me crazy, I love it. I’m consumed by something that I actually want, not something that I thought I needed to do. No, this was for me. Something I’ve chosen for myself.
I know what tonight is, and I sit on the edge of my bed and watch the clock.
Tick, tock.
I stare at the hands, willing them to move faster, but they seem to only go slower. I stand up and pace for what feels like hours, but when I look back at the time, it’s only been minutes.
After an eternity, I stand up and walk to her room.
It’s dark, and Sophie is fast asleep. I came to her room naked this time, knowing what I’m going to do.
