“Meg paced her locked room over and over, trying to avoid thinking about the detective’s report that Aunt Grace had cunningly returned to her at lunch time. Not that Meg had seen her then, or anytime until 10:30 lights-out. Meg had stayed in her room all day, and Grace was apparently disturbed enough by the sounds of her sobs to avoid her.
