But the other wolves, momentarily disconcerted by their leader's miss of what had looked like an easy kill, now reco...vered and closed in behind the big moose as he rushed the helpless Loki.Both struck viciously for the great tendons of his hind legs, striving to cripple him and bring him down. Both missed, slicing their fangs instead into his upper haunches. The searing pain of the double wound swung Awklet around, and saved Loki's life.
But it cost the king wolf heavily, nonetheless.

One of the silliest books I've read in years. There is NO way, repeat NO way that any person as close as 100 feet let alone sitting on a wagon seat, can escape being blown to smithereens by 600 lbs of gunpowder exploding. ALL of the Indians should have been destroyed, if not by the blast itself, by the concussion . An explosion like that can be heard from miles away.

Humourous writing is certainly not Henry's forte. It's ruining this story, which otherwise would have been a good read, plenty of excitement, narrow escapes and intelligent reasoning by the characters. There are a lot of anachronisms in the tale, I'm not sure, for instance that the word "barbeque" was a regular Western word at this time.Write Review:
