“He drew a deep breath, knotting his hand into a fist and then slowly relaxing each finger, concentrating on the movement and shutting out the soft click of typewriter keys. It didn't work. His muscles were still tense.
He opened his eyes and stared at the bland office walls, wishing that he was almost anywhere else. Holly would be just finishing up at school. She would soon be going home to take a nice long bath. He didn't have to close his eyes to picture her sitting in the tub. She would ...be surrounded by heaps of bubbles, her hair would be caught in a wild mass of curls on top of her head and her skin would be dewy with moisture. And she would give him that slow smile that made his blood simmer.
Only he wouldn't be there to receive that smile. He would be sitting in the chief's office, trying to explain why he didn't have more information about Holly's brother.
