““Wait, I should visit the bathroom first.” She didn’t know what the toilets were like on his space cruiser, and certainly couldn’t hold it until they had travelled light years to Karal. He nodded and she went into the bathroom while he pulled out his phone or communicator; she had no idea what it was. All her thoughts were centred on these being the last few hours on Earth.
Flushing the toilet, she washed her hands, wondering if they used water on Karal. They had to, right? They must drink it; it was common in the Universe, for life, surely. Looking at herself in the mirror as she allowed herself the luxury of a few extra seconds with the water running over her hands, she didn’t recognise herself.
The dress, the makeup, it all made her look something she wasn’t. Yet she had probably left the old Celia behind as soon as her picture was displayed as the lottery winner. From that moment, she stopped being a failed student, and instead became the second woman chosen to go to Karal.
