Robert Herrick's (1868-1938) novels deal with the turbulence of industrialized society and the turmoil it can create in sensitive, isolated people. Herrick graduated from Harvard and taught at MIT and the University of Chicago. The first story is a series of letters between Eastlake and Edith who may or may not have been in love. In the second story, A Question of Art, a woman spends years encouraging a relatively unskilled artist. All of the stories are cleverly written and the characters interesting.
