She hesitated. She picked the box up and examined the canary yellow stone. ‘No,’ she said. ‘I’m not ready.’ Jim closed his eyes and sat back. He dropped his head.
‘Sorry,’ she said, ‘it’s very sweet of you.’ ‘Put the ring on and think about it.’ She took it out of the box and put it on. It was loose on her finger.
