Commodore Jung sat beside Commander Hwang, backs to a charcoal-glowing fireplace. Dick Shappell, the heavyset blond captain named Harry Leakham—commander, Destroyer Squadron 15—and Captain Carol Owens, the U.S. naval attaché to the Republic of Korea, rounded out the guests.
