“It didn’t go well for the Colonel and his crew. In a way, I felt bad for Hackett more than any of them. He seemed like he was along for the ride, a guy that had found a place he fit in, had a job to do. He was good with the projector and staying out of the way. I hoped to get a chance to talk to him, and to Mom and the council about him. Sergeant Waters was a dangerous man. Maybe as dangerous as the Colonel himself. Waters was just a younger, stronger version of Hardaway. David Hamida was worse... than a mewling baby. I took him down to the basement of the main house. I’d never been down there before, and was surprised to find two holding cells made of concrete and iron.
