“I sat there for about two, three minutes without moving.
What had just happened?

I trudged on over to my coffee maker and picked up the pot. The pot was empty. I hadn’t made any yet.
I set the pot back on the little burner and opened the kitchen cabinet where the coffee and filters lived.
I stared at an empty spot where the coffee usually was. I had a vague memory of having used the last of it last night, and… I looked over to the fridge where I hung my grocery list. Under a few odds and ends was the word coffee, in huge block letters, underlined three times, with five exclamation points.
