“Pain stabbed through him like a fiery lance. It began in a red hot flame at his shoulder then dulled to a throbbing burn that encompassed the entirety of his being. He lifted his lids with some difficulty. Even that tiny movement hurt, setting up an ache that pulsed relentlessly inside his head.
