He was plainly startled. ‘Yes. It’s odd that you should have heard of me.’ ‘Surely no odder than this pantomime, as you call it. May I ask why you have presented yourself in this fashion at Splaine Croft?’ So far, so good, Appleby thought. He’s a strung-up type, and already he has something on his mind.
