...e saw two men taking to the road. They hadn’t seen the new arrivals and they looked in a hurry. Both men were shrouded in black cloaks, their hats pulled down and partly shielding their faces from the buffeting wind, but they were familiar to Eleanor.
She became still as she puzzled over the familiarity of the men, looking at the gate through which they had disappeared, then shook her head.
‘Why do you frown?’ William enquired.
‘Those two men who just rode out were familiar to me,’ she replied quietly.
