“The white bighead collapsed where he had stood, then rolled over and off the narrow granite ledge. He hit the long slide of scree at the top and slid all the way to the bottom. The report of the shot echoed in the high bowl, followed by the harsh slide of thin jagged shale. Then it was quiet. From this distance the white animal looked like a piece of summer snow.
