“When she and Jake had finished their meal, they had learned that Emily’s carpetbag had been moved into the room she had occupied for a short time the day before and Jake had been assigned the room across the hall. Jake, however, had been informed that baths were available in the back room of the barbershop, with a strong hint that he also visit the front room.
Emily squeezed out the sponge and watched the water trickle into the tub. In just a few hours she was going to marry Jake Rawlins. Every... time she thought about it she wanted to laugh hysterically. A month ago—a week ago!—she wouldn’t have believed it.
