“Relief overwhelms me at the sight of Nathan. He closes the distance between us in a few strides, and just when I think he’s going to pull me into his arms and take me away from all of this, his eyes flicker down to my torn vest, my dirty jeans, my bare feet, and to the blood that is laying in small pools all over the floor.
