“Megan woke earlier than usual, around six. The moment she opened her eyes, she remembered the kiss, the argument, and the tension that had taken over immediately afterwards. She lay in her bed, staring at the crack of light under her door. She could hear Sean moving around, treading softly down the corridor, the bathroom door shutting, and the distant noise of running water.
