Fahrenheit 451
Like the review I wrote for George Orwell's 1984, I think that Fahrenheit 451 is one of those books that every reader fan of retro-futuristic and dystopian societies should read (and also the rest too ;D). Fahrenheit 451 is a story that sometimes is hard, not only for the pessimistic world that Bradbury describes but especially for its characters, but this is precisely where I think it lies the genius of this work of Ray Bradbury. Fahrenheit 451 does not have the typical fairytale story structur
...e that youth adult dystopian novels usually have, it's a novel much more dark, human real and even painful. I recommend it to everyone as a reflection and a less conventional way of telling stories than usual.

I've decided to re-read some of my all-time favourite classics. First on my list was the phenomenal Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? It is not just a seminal piece of science fiction it is a seminal work of literature. I would actually go so far as to say this is a genuinely important book, dealing with the topic of governments trying to exert complete control over their citizenry and, perhaps more significantly, the willingness of said citizenry to accept that control.
As pertinent as this book was when it was first released, it is even moreso today, in our society of quick-fix, lowest-common-denominator entertainment and the almost complete saturation of the Internet into our everyday lives.
I'm not going to preach (I'll leave that to Ray) but this book gets my highest recommendation. If you've read it, you know what I mean. If you haven't read this book you really owe it to yourself to do so.
