“The stardrive activated and lurched her into lightspeed at the moment the Verne opened fire. Elisa’s ship suffered extreme damage—she knew immediately that it was bad. One of her in-system engines dropped offline, and she felt the explosion resonate through the ship.
“Hold together!” she shouted, as if she could threaten the hull into maintaining integrity. If the structural plates failed catastrophically, she wouldn’t have enough time to know it.
