When gunshots rang through the air, I jumped, startled by the loud and unexpected blast. For one brief, fluttering moment of ridiculously naïve hope, I thought my king in shining armor had come to rescue me, but then I saw the television built into the wall high above our heads, playing an old Western cowboy shoot-‘em-up movie, Della’s entertainment between torture sessions.MoreLess
