No, it was the small jolt of euphoria it shot up my spin and settled at my core. This was a promise of more.     As instructed, I nodded and he smirked. “Good girl.” Nimble fingers explored my ankle first, taking the remaining black Converse from my foot. It landed on the floor with a muted thud. Lightly and with care, he traced the swelling purple mark that surrounded it. “Does this hurt?” Adding a small amount of pressure, he gaged my reactions.     “Yes.” It came out as a hiss between sharp intakes of air; it hurt, and I couldn’t deny it any longer. The bruising had grown and so had the swelling of my foot. Anyone with common sense could see just how much damage my fall had caused.     With a frown on his face he surveyed the area and then paused to write something in my chart. “I don’t like the bruising in this particular spot,” he exclaimed; proving his point by poking the tender section and causing me to cry out in pain.
