They have descriptive text on rectos of left-hand leaves and a few right-hand versos Plates were etched by Giovanni Battista Pittoni and had been previously published by him with title: Praecipua aliquot Romanae antiquitatis ruinarum monimenta (Venice, 1561). Most plates are
...signed by Pittoni, and many are dated 1581 (altered from 1561). Plates 3, 12 and 27 have the additional initials CDM (or COM). Plate 8 is not signed at all, and differs from the rest in that it is engraved, not etched T.p. within architectural border, incorporating Ziletti's device at foot (comet).
