And when they had decided on that, they decided, too, to call me in as – an authority.”
Gott’s pipe was going again. He was telling his story with disarming simple pleasure.
“I came in on it – very foolishly, you will say – and I half turned it, I suppose, into a species of game. We could simply have raided Umpleby and forced the stuff out of him – he wouldn’t have cared for public scandal.MoreLess
