Eventually, he flicked it off, stood up and stretched. Walked over to Natalie’s desk and had a rummage through her drawers.

... mirror, my hands shaking. Let out a long breath. A car started and drove away. I waited a few minutes until I was pretty sure he wasn’t coming back. Then I buggered off out of there as fast as possible.
It was well after midnight when I got home. I spent some time flipping through the notebook, but the shapes on the pages meant nothing to me. Shorthand, possibly? I tucked it under my pillow. Not very comfortable but I didn’t want this going the same way as Natalie’s bag.
I woke late the next morning, groggy and still unable to shake off the headache.
