“I put my pyjamas on and got into bed, but as soon as I closed my eyes the whole drama started unfolding in my head again: the thugs attacking Antonio and Inez with their sjamboks and knobkerries; the one big fellow lighting the wick of the petrol bomb. And after I had fallen asleep the nightmare continued with full force. Again I felt the python coiling around my throat and chest, squeezing the breath out of me. I managed to get my eyes open and saw my mother staring at me, her face a rigid mask of panic. “Talk to me, Rick!” she said, shaking me again.
