“Kinsley’s porch, threw open the door, and then slammed it closed behind her with enough force to make the windows rattle. A startled gasp sounded from the doorway to the kitchen, and Edythe whirled to find Mrs. Kinsley staring at her with wide eyes, a damp cloth pressed to her chest.“Land sakes, girl, you tryin’ to scare me outta my wits?”Ignoring the rebuke, Edythe tromped to the kitchen table, dumped her armload of books, and then held up her fists.
