Jethro must’ve smelled them, too, because he clapped his hands with eagerness and bounded off the bed. “It’s about time the pastry girl showed up.”

Jethro cleared a magazine off the bedside table to make room for the tray. “I don’t care what her name is. She’s late.”
The cinnamon rolls appeared on a tray carried by a nubile young maid. Not Kate. What a letdown. The breakfast pastr...ies looked good, but without Kate there for him to lavish praise on and to watch her eyes glow with pride while he and Jethro gobbled up the sweets, he almost didn’t want to eat them. Almost.
Jethro slumped against the side of the bed. “Where’s the pastry girl?” he asked the maid.
