“It began in the late afternoon and snowed heavily all night. Then it stopped, and the skies cleared. In the morning the slopes of Aspen Mountain were covered with ten inches of dry powder. The hardpack below those ten inches was already three feet deep. The temperature at the base of the mountain was fifteen degrees, and there was no wind. The blue sky was bright enough to hurt the eyes of anyone foolish enough not to wear goggles or good sunglasses. These were perfect skiing conditions.
