“Making his way through the crowded establishment, Lennox seated himself next to Emmerie’s brother Zamuel. The man nursed a large mug of mead with a grim expression.
“You look as disgruntled as I feel, brother.”
“Lennox, good to see you. How is my sister? I haven’t seen her out lately.”
His stomach twisted into a knot. “Nothing I do shakes her from the somberness that has hold of her.”
“She has her phases, Lennox. It’s not your fault. Sit here and enjoy a drink with me.”
A muffled scream escaped... through the floorboards of the roof. Lennox grabbed the hilt of his sword and leapt off his stool.
Zamuel gripped his arm, halting him in his tracks. “Sit.”
Lennox appraised the stormy expression on his friend’s face, surprised to be restrained. “Explain yourself.”
“The screams have been all evening. Most the time they’re more obviously of pleasure.”
A drunken voice yelled from several seats down, “A damned sex demon is passing through town, that’s what.”MoreLess
