“A burst of adrenaline helped him to push through to the end point, beating his friend Tyler in the final dash to their pre-determined finish line.
Behind him, Mason heard Tyler grunting frustration. “Damn it, not again!”
Bending over to catch his breath, Mason faced his friend and grinned. “You’ve got to step it up, my man.”
Tyler came to a stop beside him and after inhaling several deep breaths, began to pace. “I have been stepping it up. It’s those long legs of yours. You have an unfair advantage.”
“Excuses, excuses,” Mason said. Though in reality, he knew that Tyler was right. At six foot two, Tyler was definitely a tall guy. But Mason towered over most men.
Mason took the water bottle from the fuel belt around his waist, opened it and drank almost all of the contents in one long gulp. He saw that Tyler was doing the same thing.
Mason checked the stopwatch in his hand, which he had clicked as he had crossed the finish line.
