Welch inspected Sam’s wounds. She tried to remain objective, reminding herself that she could only help if she kept her fears under control.

“I know,” Julie replied. “I just wish it didn’t have to happen to Sam.”
“We’ve done all we can,” Dr. Welch said as he tied a bandage in place. “Now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
