She left the food inside and walked around the perimeter of the property until she was certain the site was empty, then went back and retrieved the pot.
Retracing her steps with the intent of returning the food to Mrs. Campbell at the boardinghouse, she took a shortcut that led her toward the docks and the courthouse beyond.MoreLess
