In fact, she wasn’t thinking of chains of command at the moment. Major Warhurst was there, the man she’d served under at Ishtar, a Marine officer whom she respected completely, and whose orders she would willingly follow no matter where they led. Semper fi.

And better yet, Major Warhurst was approachable. It wasn’t something to abuse, but it was there when you needed it. And, damn it, she needed it.
“Sir, if there’s a chance we can get Gare back by turning the alien loose, well, I say we should do it, sir!”
