    David continued to indulge Shlomo, praising his growth, his quick mind, and his knowledge of nature. In order to provide a bit of balance, I did not approve of everything my son did, but was quick to correct him for disobedience, thoughtlessness, and ingratitude. “You may have been born a king’s son,” I frequently reminded him, “but your mother is a soldier’s daughter and your father was once a shepherd. Adonai promotes some people, while He keeps others humble, and we have little choice in the matter.
