nicole says: I loved Ifemelu who has a brash, unapologetic energy. The book is essentially a love story that is shaped by immigration and race relations. Ifemelu was in turn hilarious, insightful, self sabotoging, frustrating and entirely realistic. Her blog entries were particularly fun to read. I found Obinze's chapters much slower and less captivating than Ifemelu's and the book ended with a bit of a whimper, which was unsatisfying. Anmol says: This book was fantastic! I loved the character...s and eagerly followed their stories, while at the same time being challenged to think. A lot. About the experiences of a cultural outsider, about the world of American higher education, about relationships and values, but most of all about race in America. More than once I felt a little uncomfortable, wondering if the characters I read about might reflect me. But I feel that I understand a significant small bit more what it might be like to live as a minority population that wears that minority status visibly at all times.MoreLessRead More Read Less

How can anyone not love Chimamanda, I can not believe it. Maybe you don't like her because she is a realist and you are possibly one of those common male saugvinistic people.
