The boys should bring in the rest today. The Herefords up here and them won’t hardly stay togethe...r with the longhorns, so they weren’t as bad as we expected.”
“How many big stuff have you gathered?” Chet asked.
“Two-fifty cows, not counting calves. There were plenty up here.”
“They probably were pushed this direction by their men,” Tom said. “We’d noticed an increase but couldn’t catch them doing it.”
“Tomorrow we can start driving them?”
“I’d say so,” Hampt said.
“Good, we better tell Hoot.”
The two men agreed.

"come daylight he checked his carbine and pistol..They were loaded". Such scintillating prose. The dialogue is so stilted and amateurish that n is inconceivable that the writer was paid money for this. The stilts are about 40 ft. high and made of all wood,,,solid OAK. I just quote a typical example but there are FAR worse, already past . Hard to believe. His previous book was far better- and it was still very bad.

Have to quit and go on to the next one. Dusty Richards is definitely NOT my favourite writer./...... "ranch women"..."ranch cows"

A woman he's seen all the previous night,, a long standing affair. So she sees him now. and "flew off the stairs , and came into his arms "I wondered if you were ever going to see me again."..."I washere all night"......"That's an eternity".
This is out in the early bold Bad West... ?????? Nuts. lousy dialogue couldn't be worse.
