“Marcus was still there, asleep, and if I hadn't seen it I might not have believed it. He was mortal just like the rest of us after all.
But Connor was gone.
I climbed out of the bed and left the room, padding down the long hallway in my bare feet, back to Connor's side of the mansion, to see if maybe he had gone back to his own bed for the night. But if he'd done that I would have assumed that he would wake me, which had me worried. Maybe I was overreacting and he was just hungry though.... Or had gone to the bathroom. Or something. But I had a bad feeling I couldn't shake.
When I finally got back to Connor's room I could see the light on, and I got a feeling of apprehension. Why was he here, and not still in bed?
I cracked open the door, but he was already looking at me. He must have heard me, or smelled me, before I ever got close. He wasn't just looking though, he was glaring.
