“Abigail lay on her mattress on the living room floor with the covers pulled up over her face. It had gotten so cold the last two weeks that she and her family had dragged their beds into the living room near the fireplace to stay warm at night. Her father had shut all the doors and put black trash bags on the windows to try and seal in the heat. It only marginally worked. They were also almost out of wood to burn.
