“I could feel the slight bite of it in the air. My loose skirt flared around my thighs as I hurried down the steps. Hastily, I checked my phone for another text message from Liv but saw none.
There was a missed call from my dad but I decided to call him later. Something about Liv’s message had set me on edge. Even worse, the woman had said she was going to meet me here at school. If that didn’t scream “urgent”, I don’t know what did. If it couldn’t wait until I was done with class for the day, then I had to assume something big was up.
I half-jogged across the expansive quadrangle in the middle of the campus’ four main buildings. Other students rushed by me, some walking, others just as hurried as I was. I followed the path on my left, almost out of breath and cursing my heels by the time I got near the main entrance.
A small, nearly hidden garden lay to my right and the moment I got close enough, Liv appeared and pulled me inside.
