“She had seen her mother step outside to say goodbye to the two strange women, but she had thought little of it until now. Holding the oil lamp in her hand, she was about to investigate further when Belinda entered the house, smiling excitedly and seemingly oblivious to the fact that her hair and clothes were soaked with rainwater. ‘Cassy, darling, you’ll never guess who’s just arrived.’ Cassy held the lamp a little higher but she almost dropped it as she recognised the young man who had followe...d her mother into the house.
