““I’ll leave already,” I called out as I rolled over on my back, groggy with sleep. It was a gray, overcast day, but I had slept in, so it was already good. “Don’t be mad.”
“Shut up!” he yelled from the bathroom.
I yawned and stretched, and when he came striding out of the bathroom dressed for— I wasn’t sure, I couldn’t keep from grinning.
He gave me a dismissive wave. “Just don’t say anything.”
“You look hot,” I said, sitting up and scrubbing my eyes with the heels of my hands b...efore taking in the sight of him again. “Where ya goin’?”
He put on the helmet he carried under his arm. “To a charity polo match.”
“That sounds like fun,” I joked. “So I’ll just hang out here ’til you—”
“You wouldn’t want to come with me, would you?”
The way he asked, nonchalantly like it didn’t matter one way or the other, was completely betrayed by the way he chewed the inside his left cheek.MoreLess
