If I'm to be honest I'd give it 3.75 stars. I don't mind a little sizzle in my stories, but can't recommend them to those who'd rather keep those stories in their own bedrooms. And this one packed some heat! Lily was an endearing character but unrealistically naive. Budgie was a tragic mess that I couldn't help but pity. Little KiKi reminded me of my own spunky niece and I'm glad her lineage was as I predicted (gotta love smart use of foreshadowing). There were great page turning story
... lines and I loved how quick the 380 pages kept me, quite literally, on the edge of my seat.

This fast reading novel follows Lily Dane through the school year 1931-1932, and the summer of 1938. Lily meets Nick Greenwald in college, falls in love, but somehow, in 1938, he is married to her friend, Budgie. The story is told in alternating chapters from each of the two years. I love novels set in this era and loved reading about the slow pace of life at the summer home at the beach. Fun Book!
