“It was all so unfair, and she was so distressed over it. She’d even, for the first time in years, considered missing school because she hadn’t wanted to face anyone. What she’d wanted was to lock herself in her room, climb back into bed, and hide from the rest of the world. Which had been an okay idea until she thought about her father and how if he found out about it, he might just slip home from work. Needless to say, taking a chance on that was out of the question.
