Review1:
After reading George R.R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings, one is left to wonder what else can happen? The book opens in a power vacuum created by the death of Robert Baratheon, the King of Westeros, and the manipulative beheading of Eddard Stark, the King’s second in command. Into this vacuum enter five contenders, each from a different part of Westeros, for the position as King.
This second book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire introduces new characters with new plots that become su
bplots to the main story line. Political intrigue, personal manipulations, and the din of battle contribute to the maelstrom of vacuum that is Westeros. And always in the background hangs a comet that appears a harbinger of a coming winter, complete with the specter of death spooks.
A Clash of Kings provides a reader with unabashed tribulations, heart pounding action, and mysteries piled atop mysteries that drive a plot line that twists and turns through a medieval environment. Any reader who enjoys the thrill of not knowing an ending, of questing for a solution and finding none, of adding complications on top of impossibilities will find themselves so involved that they will find themselves intimately involved in lives that often reflect elements of their own.
Review 2:
GRRM is incredible and this series is fantastic and this was an amazing follow-up to GoT. I must admit, it took me a while to read the first book because it was just so damn similar to the show, but now that some things are starting to differ (not major things, but still), and we're getting more backstories and histories that we don't get in the show, it's becoming much more interesting. I loved this book so much and I loved that it centered so much around Tyrion. An Imp perhaps, but more of a man in wit than any of the other characters… I love how GRRM is capable of portraying complex characters that are good but do bad things, or that are essentially evil but do good deeds, or that have good and bad in them. Like the Hound, I love the Hound, and his protective side towards Sansa and her innocence. And how you're rooting for Arya, even though she's slowly becoming a deadly killer-a little girl, still! This book was amazing. I can't say it enough times. This book and this author and the show and the actors and everything. I love it. I love it. I love it. My favourite series by far (maybe after HP) and I haven't even finished it! Nor has GRRM finished writing it!
