Wandering aimlessly at first, now he began to make out vague geometrical shadows amongst ...the twisted tree trunks. Buildings, he realized with a start, or the remains of them.
He approached the yawning portal of one of the structures, its lintel framed in dead briars, the flagstones crumbling, barely evident beneath his feet. Inside, it was lighter, the luminescence of alchemical lanthorns coppering the walls.
