At eleven months old, she’d started cruising, far earlier than the boys had. I was sure it wouldn’t be long before she started walking. I smiled as I heard the powerful roar of the speedboat approaching. Dan had taken the boys out food shopping. Wherever he went, Oliver wanted to follow, although Jonas had taken more convincing. Much to Dan’s chagrin, he was still all about me, whereas Eva was a real Daddy’s girl. I tossed the broad beans into the grill pan, full of the chopped-up bacon and bacon fat, and stirred to make sure everything was coated. It was a quick, simple meal that everyone loved. I’d done some garlic bread to go with it, and we had a forest fruit crumble and ice cream for dessert. I’d laid the table outside to enjoy the last of the unusually good weather for September.
