But today, I didn’t have a choice. She came up to me after assembly. “You haven’t spoken to me all week. I texted you last night and you didn’t even text back.” She was shifting from foot to foot while she talked, which is what she does when she’s nervous.
I thought about Sophie’s insisten...ce that I say something. “I saw you kiss Billy at the dance.” The words just tumbled out.
Brynn’s forehead crinkled up like she was confused. “It was just a kiss between friends.”
“A kiss between friends?” It sounded more like a question when I repeated it. I knew I sounded like June, but I didn’t care.
Brynn nodded her head. “No big deal.”
